Countdown to Congress: Reimagine inclusive patient care with Dr. Erica Marsh

ASRM 2023 Scientific Congress & Expo

The Past, The Present, and The Pipeline

New Orleans, Louisiana, October 14-18, 2023

Countdown to Congress

Join Erica E. Marsh, MD, MS, as she reviews the historical, social, structural, and political context of reproduction and fertility amongst marginalized populations in the United States. Using theoretical frameworks, including reproductive justice and critical race theory, Dr. Marsh will examine the meaning of “equity” in the infertility space and challenge you to reimagine patient-centered care through a lens of inclusion. In this session she will describe the historical events that shape our understanding of reproduction, fertility, and infertility; differentiate between equality, equity, and justice; apply theoretical tenets to current challenges in infertility; and develop a new paradigm for the infertility patient and provider pipelines. Don’t miss out on this thought-provoking plenary session titled David and Rosemary Adamson Excellence in Reproductive Medicine Lecture: “The Silence of Our Friends”: At the Intersection of REI and Racism, Equity, and Inclusion on Tuesday, October 17, from 3:30-4:15 PM.

Dr. Erica E. Marsh is a renowned researcher and community advocate. Currently, she is Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School and Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Department of OBGYN, holds the University Diversity and Social Transformation Professorship at the University of Michigan, is the S Jan Behrman Collegiate of Reproductive Medicine at the Medical School, serves as the Associate Director of the Michigan Institute of Clinical and Health Research (MICHR), and is the founder and director of Health and Reproductive Disparities (onWHARD!) Collaborative. She graduated from Harvard College magna cum laude and Harvard Medical School cum laude, completed her residency at the Integrated OBGYN Residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and completed a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.

Dr. Marsh has received millions of dollars in funding to support her research in Comparative Reproductive Health as she seeks to understand the challenges of reproductive disorders, addressing pathophysiology, their social determinants, and clinical impact, and understanding the patient experience and community impact. Dr. Marsh partners with community members and organizations to build research agendas and teams in the hopes of conducting socially meaningful research and passing along a positive research experience. Her commitment to community advocacy and mentorship has been nationally recognized with multiple awards for research excellence, STEM innovation, community service, and humanitarianism.
