Dr. Robert Brannigan Inaugurated President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine

San Antonio, TX—Today, Robert E. Brannigan, MD, was sworn in as President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), effective October 29, 2025.

Robert E. Brannigan, MD, is the Janice Binstein Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Urology in the Department of Urology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He serves on the ASRM Board of Directors, and he is a past President of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU) and former Chair of ASRM’s Research Committee.

Dr. Brannigan’s clinical focus is male fertility, and he performs a wide array of surgical procedures to support the reproductive health of his patients. He is the Director of the Andrology fellowship at Northwestern, and his primary research focus is fertility preservation in male patients with cancer. He was instrumental in establishing the integrated male fertility preservation program at Northwestern Medicine.

He succeeds Elizabeth Ginsburg, MD, as President of ASRM. Dr. Ginsburg is a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) specialist at Harvard University, where she is also the REI Fellowship Director.

Under Dr. Brannigan’s expert leadership, ASRM and its members will continue to lead the field of reproductive science and medicine for practitioners and patients alike.”

 

James P. Toner, Jr., MD, PhD, elected ASRM Vice President

James P. Toner, Jr., MD, PhD, Professor at Emory University’s Reproductive Center, former Secretary and Treasurer of ASRM, and Chair of the Informed Consent Committee, becomes Vice President of ASRM.

 

New Board Members 

  • Director at Large – Valerie L. Baker, MD, Director of the REI Division and the TeLinde-Wallach Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is past President of the  Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and past President of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), and has served as a member of the Patient Education Committee, Chair of the Postgraduate Program Committee, Co-Chair of the SREI Fellows Symposium, Chair of the SART Research Committee, and Chair of the SREI Practice Retreat, and is currently a member of the ASRM Global Health Committee and the ASRM Program Planning Committee.
  • Director at Large – Karl Hansen, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He is a member of the ASRM Research Integrity Committee, an Associate Editor for F&S Reviews, a member of the SART Quality Assurance Committee, and the Academic Director at Large on the SREI Board.
