Medical Society to Move Headquarters Out of Alabama

Washington, DC – The American Society for Reproductive Medicine, a major medical association celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, announced today it was moving its main headquarters from Birmingham, AL to Washington DC. The move comes in reaction to new laws in Alabama restricting access to reproductive medical services.

ASRM, with more than 8000 members and a $10 million operating budget, will designate its Washington DC, office as its headquarters.

“We cannot sit idly by as politicians in Alabama deny access to medically necessary, constitutionally protected procedures. While we will be maintaining some administrative functions in our Birmingham office, we are immediately changing our official headquarters to Washington and will be evaluating our continued presence in Alabama.  In addition, we are committed to taking whatever steps are necessary to ensure that our employees remaining in Birmingham will have access to all needed reproductive health procedures,” stated Peter Schlegel, MD, President of the ASRM.

ASRM is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the advancement of the science and practice of reproductive medicine. The Society accomplishes its mission through the pursuit of excellence in education and research and through advocacy on behalf of patients, physicians, and affiliated health care providers. The Society is committed to facilitating and sponsoring educational activities for the lay public and continuing medical education activities for professionals who are engaged in the practice of and research in reproductive medicine.
