Robert Brannigan, MD
American Urological Association (AUA) Bruce Stewart Memorial Lecture: Fertility Preservation in the Male Across the Lifespan: A New Paradigm
Tuesday, October 25, 3:30 – 4:15 pm

Robert Brannigan, MD, will be sharing American Urological Association (AUA) Bruce Stewart Memorial Lecture: Fertility Preservation in the Male Across the Lifespan: A New Paradigm on Tuesday, October 25, 3:30 – 4:15 pm. This lecture is supported by a grant from the American Urological Association.

Cancer and cancer treatments can have substantial adverse effects on male fertility, resulting in permanently impaired reproductive potential for many men. Fertility preservation is now recognized as an important survivorship issue, and over the last two decades, a large number of adult and pediatric professional societies have published guidelines recommending that fertility preservation become an integral part of cancer care. While the majority of males with cancer can provide a semen specimen for fertility preservation, numerous other means of sperm procurement can be pursued for those males unable to provide a sufficient sample. Fertility preservation is a challenge for prepubertal boys and men with no sperm production. For these individuals, numerous experimental and investigational methods are being studied, with the aim being to provide a successful technique for fertility preservation in these males.

Robert E. Brannigan, MD is a Professor in the Department of Urology at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine with a clinical and research focus on male reproductive medicine and surgery and fertility preservation. He is a Professor, Vice Chair of Clinical Urology, and Director of the Andrology Fellowship. At Northwestern, he also serves as the Assistant Director of Student Affairs within the Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Brannigan has been actively involved in the leadership of many national organizations and societies. He is a Past President of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU), and also a Past President of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction (SSMR). He served a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He is a former Assistant Editor for The Journal of Urology and Editorial Editor for Fertility and Sterility, and he is currently a member of the Editorial Committee of the AUA Update Series. He serves as a Senior Consultant for the American Board of Urology Examination Committee.
