Like you, we have been following the latest COVID-19 developments, particularly the increased caseloads triggered by the Delta variant, quite closely and with some growing concern.
At this time we think that empirical data and the best available projections mean that we can safely hold our Scientific Congress in person in Baltimore in October.
We have been and will remain in close contact with public health authorities in Baltimore as well as at the CDC. Vaccine uptake is high in Maryland and caseloads are relatively low. The overwhelming majority of health care personnel, including presumably ASRM members, are vaccinated and there are some additional mitigation measures (masking, social distancing) available to us, all of which leads to conclude we can have a safe meeting in October. We will, of course, keep up with developments, stay in touch with authorities and experts, and will make adjustments if needed as we get closer to the meeting.
For now, please encourage everyone who can to get vaccinated, and I look forward to seeing you in Baltimore.
Hugh Taylor, M.D.
