Herbert H. Thomas Plenary Lecture: Applications of Nuclear Transplantation in Reproductive Medicine | Wednesday, Oct. 20, 8:00 – 8:45 am

We are excited to introduce Shoukhrat Mitaliopov, Ph.D. as a lecture speaker at the ASRM 2021 Scientific Congress & Expo. He will be giving the Herbert H. Thomas Plenary Lecture: Applications of Nuclear Transplantation in Reproductive Medicine on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, 8:00 am to 8:45 am.

Transplantation of nuclear genetic material from one cell to another occurs naturally during fertilization, IVF or ICSI. We will discuss clinical applications of other forms of nuclear transplantation in IVF that may rescue poor quality patients’ oocytes by repairing its defective cytoplasm with healthy counterparts from young donors. This approach has been already used in some IVF clinics to deliver healthy babies for families with multiple conventional IVF failures.

Shoukhrat Mitalipov, Ph.D. is the Director of the OHSU Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy. He is also a Professor in the Division of Reproductive & Developmental Sciences of Oregon National Primate Research Center. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, he joined Utah State University in 1995 to conduct his postdoctoral training in developmental biology and joined OHSU in 1998. Dr. Mitalipov’s areas of interest are gamete & embryo biology, mitochondrial genetics, and a special focus on germline gene therapy.
