Heidi Cook-Andersen, M.D., Ph.D.
Uncovering the Molecular Determinants of Successful Implantation in the Human Blastocyst | Tuesday, Oct. 19, 8:00 – 8:30 am
We are pleased to welcome Heidi Cook-Andersen, M.D., Ph.D. as a lecture speaker at the ASRM 2021 Scientific Congress & Expo. She will be presenting in the Pre-Plenary Lecture on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 8:00 am to 8:30 am. Her talk is titled Uncovering the Molecular Determinants of Successful Implantation in the Human Blastocyst.
Implantation of the blastocyst in the uterus to establish a pregnancy is remarkably inefficient in humans for reasons that remain largely unexplained. In fact, implantation failure is widely considered to be one of the greatest obstacles in treating infertility. Identification of the specific genes and pathways that determine successful implantation and ongoing pregnancy in humans is critical to future improvements in IVF success and will require integration of findings from both embryos and emerging embryo models.
Heidi Cook-Andersen, M.D., Ph.D. is an obstetrician-gynecologist in La Jolla, California and is affiliated with UC San Diego Health-Jacobs Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and has been in practice between 11-20 years. Dr. Cook-Andersen is an inaugural ASRM Research Institute grant recipient and will be presenting on her research that is funded from this grant.
ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE
Innovation, Discoveries, and Insights
What will you learn at the ASRM 2021 abstract sessions?
Science is the cornerstone of clinical care. Hear about the latest developments straight from the groundbreakers during numerous topic-focused oral, poster, and video abstract sessions.
Want an early-morning dose of science? Attend the poster breakfasts and meet the authors that work hard to bring you the latest in the field. Poster breakfasts will be held Tuesday, October 19 and Wednesday, October 20, from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. A complimentary continental breakfast is provided for attendees. Many of the abstract authors will be present to discuss their research and answer questions.
Be sure to also sit in on the oral abstract sessions each day from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm. For those things you just have to see, the Congress includes video sessions on Monday and Tuesday from 4:15 to 5:30 pm for abstract presentations about devices, surgeries, and other procedures.
Not attending in-person? We have you covered with the virtual poster wall, which will include all posters – even posters from authors that are unable to attend the Congress. On-site attendees will be able to access the virtual poster wall via the on-demand Congress site.

When you register for the Congress at a discounted rate, you have the opportunity to add the FREE Resident Learning Sessions to help you make contacts and understand the sessions.
These lunch sessions are a program specific to resident physicians in training in reproductive medicine. The program emphasizes the understanding of complex topics, the interaction with other disciplines, and the psychosocial sequelae and ethical concerns in human reproduction. Residents will also be exposed to a variety of interactive educational methods and have an opportunity to network/interaction with faculty with expertise in the specific topic for the day and a whole session dedicated to network with fellows who attend as peer faculty.
Program spots are limited and are granted on a first come, first served basis. Click here for more information about resident learning sessions.
